Southern at LSU
BATON ROUGE, La. (Interstat) — The LSU Tigers, riding high after a series win over Kentucky, will host the Southern Jaguars in a midweek nonconference matchup Tuesday night at Alex Box Stadium/Skip Bertman Field.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. under cloudy skies with a game-time temperature near 76 degrees.
The Tigers (19-10) enter with significant momentum, having taken two of three from the Wildcats in a high-scoring weekend series. LSU’s offense exploded for 17 runs in Sunday’s finale, powered by multi-hit games from several starters.
Second baseman Seth Dardar has been a key catalyst. He went 3 for 5 with a home run and four RBIs in Sunday’s victory, part of a recent surge that includes six hits in his last 12 at-bats. The Tigers’ lineup will look to continue its production before a pivotal weekend road series at Tennessee.
Southern (8-16) arrives after winning its weekend Southwestern Athletic Conference series against Prairie View. The Jaguars edged the Panthers 9-8 on Sunday, fueled by a two-hit, three-RBI performance from first baseman Brant Stewart that included a home run.
Stewart has been the Jaguars’ most consistent hitter, driving in five runs over his last four games. Southern will need his bat to stay hot against an LSU pitching staff that posted a shutout Saturday.
Despite Southern’s recent uptick, the Tigers are overwhelming favorites. Interstat’s ELO rating system gives LSU a 96% probability to win, though its game simulator projects a tight 6-5 final.
LSU leads the all-time series 71-18-1 and has won 16 straight meetings. The Tigers will look to maintain that dominance before traveling to Knoxville. Southern turns its focus to a home SWAC series against Bethune-Cookman beginning Friday.
