New Orleans Edges South Alabama in Pitchers’ Duel
MOBILE, Ala. (Interstat) — The New Orleans Privateers used a two-run fourth inning and a dominant bullpen effort to defeat the South Alabama Jaguars 2-1 on Tuesday evening at Eddie Stanky Field.
The Privateers, who improved to 12-19, broke a 1-1 tie in the fourth. Kruise Newman hit an RBI single to score Owen Smith, followed by an RBI double from Evan Rogers that plated Newman.
South Alabama (18-11) scored its lone run in the second inning on an RBI double by Rett Johnson. After that, six New Orleans relievers combined for 7 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing no hits. Jack Garvey, Rex Henderson, Luke Lycette, Logan Waldschmidt, Lane Alack and Tyler Velino shut down the Jaguars’ offense after starter Hayden O’Dell allowed two runs over five innings.
Both teams finished with six hits. The result defied national projections that heavily favored South Alabama.
