Lions Rally From Seven-Run Deficit, Stun Mustangs in Ninth
LOS ANGELES (Interstat) — DJ Ghiorso’s walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning capped a stunning comeback as Loyola Marymount rallied from an early seven-run deficit to beat Cal Poly 8-7 on Wednesday at Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena.
The Lions, who trailed 7-0 after three innings, scored four in the fourth on a three-run homer from Richie Klosek and a solo shot from T. Friend. They then plated three in the eighth to tie it before Ghiorso’s final hit scored J. Wall.
Dante Vachini drove in three runs for the Mustangs, who had 10 hits. Loyola Marymount’s bullpen, led by Zachary DenDekker, Jacob Fried and Caleb Sweeney, combined for 7 1/3 innings of one-run relief after the early outburst.
Cal Poly fell to 14-9. Loyola Marymount improved to 8-20.
