UC Davis at Pacific

STOCKTON, Calif. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking consistency will meet Tuesday when the UC Davis Aggies visit the Pacific Tigers in nonconference baseball at Klein Family Field.

First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. PDT on March 24.

The Aggies (9-11) and Tigers (9-14) enter with identical recent struggles, each having lost three of their last four games. UC Davis is coming off a 5-4 loss at Cal Poly on Sunday, while Pacific dropped a high-scoring 15-10 home decision to Seattle the same day.

A key matchup will feature UC Davis right-hander Noel Valdez against a Pacific lineup powered by hot-hitting outfielder JT Shank.

Valdez (2-2, 4.50 ERA), Tuesday’s projected starter, has been a workhorse but is coming off a tough outing. On Sunday, he allowed five earned runs over 6 1/3 innings in the loss to Cal Poly. Prior to that, he had two strong starts, including a six-inning, four-hit, one-run performance in a win over Nevada on Feb. 27.

He will need to navigate a Tigers order that saw Shank go 4 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs in Sunday’s slugfest. Shank is batting .500 (8 for 16) over his last five games, providing a bright spot for a Pacific team that has allowed 10 or more runs in four of its last six contests.

For UC Davis, outfielder Tyler Howard, who homered Sunday, and third baseman Joey Wright, who drove in two runs, will look to provide offensive support.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a narrow 4-3 victory for the visiting Aggies.

Following Tuesday’s contest, both teams jump into conference play this weekend. UC Davis will host UC San Diego for a three-game series starting Friday, while Pacific will welcome Gonzaga to Stockton for a three-game set the same day.
