Stonehill at Brown

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Interstat) — A cold, wet evening awaits the Brown and Stonehill baseball teams when they meet in nonconference play Tuesday at Murray Stadium.

First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. under a forecast of 36-degree temperatures and rain. The game simulates a tight contest, with Interstat projecting a 6-5 victory for the home Bears.

Brown (7-10) enters with momentum from a dominant pitching performance. In Sunday’s 8-0 win at Yale, right-hander Dylan Reid threw seven no-hit innings, striking out eight. Reid, a key player to watch, has allowed just one earned run over his last 12 innings spanning two appearances.

Stonehill (6-13) is coming off a series win over Mercyhurst, taking three of four games. The Skyhawks’ offense erupted for 36 runs in those victories. Catcher Cam Morrison powered Sunday’s 9-7 win, going 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs. Morrison, batting .333 (6 for 18) with six RBIs in his last five games, is Stonehill’s primary offensive threat.

The Bears’ schedule intensifies this weekend with an Ivy League opening series against Princeton. Stonehill begins Northeast Conference play Friday against Central Connecticut.

Despite the elements, both teams will look to build on recent successes. Brown seeks consistency after alternating wins and losses over its past six games. Stonehill aims to carry its weekend offensive surge into the midweek against a Brown pitching staff riding high from Reid’s gem.
