Kennesaw State at Georgia
Bulldogs Host Owls in Midweek Rematch
ATHENS, Ga. (Interstat) — The Georgia Bulldogs look to continue their dominant season when they host in-state foe Kennesaw State on Tuesday evening at Foley Field.
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. EDT under partly cloudy skies with a temperature near 81 degrees.
The No. 6-ranked Bulldogs (20-5) enter as heavy favorites, having routed the Owls 11-1 in Kennesaw just three weeks ago on March 3. Georgia boasts one of the nation’s top records and is coming off a series win on the road at then-Texas A&M, despite a 18-5 loss in Sunday’s finale.
Kennesaw State (10-10) arrives after taking two of three games from Liberty over the weekend, including a 4-3 victory Sunday. The Owls have been inconsistent, alternating wins and losses over their last eight contests.
A key matchup will feature Kennesaw State reliever Daniel Powell against Georgia’s hot-hitting outfielder Rylan Lujo. Powell has been a reliable arm out of the bullpen, posting a 0.00 ERA over his last five appearances spanning 8.1 innings. In Sunday’s win over Liberty, he delivered 5.1 strong innings, allowing just one earned run.
Lujo, meanwhile, provides power for the Bulldogs. He homered and drove in two runs in Sunday’s loss at Texas A&M and is 5 for 11 (.455) over his last three games. In the March 3 meeting with Kennesaw State, Lujo went 1 for 4 with an RBI.
Georgia’s offense has been potent, averaging over eight runs per game during SEC play. Kennesaw State’s pitching staff will need a strong start to keep pace, as the Owls’ team ERA sits above 5.00.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, Georgia is projected to win 7-5.
Following this contest, Georgia opens a crucial three-game home series against South Carolina on Friday. Kennesaw State begins a road series at Delaware on Friday.
