New Orleans at Jackson State

JACKSON, Miss. (Interstat) — The Jackson State Tigers look to continue their recent offensive surge when they host the New Orleans Privateers in a non-conference matchup Tuesday evening at Braddy Field.

First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. under cloudy skies with temperatures around 72 degrees.

The Tigers (10-12) are coming off a 15-4 rout of Prairie View on Sunday, part of a series win. Their offense has averaged 9.5 runs over the last four games. A player to watch for the home team is right-hander Jayden Lopez, who earned the win Sunday with a strong start: six innings pitched, three hits, two earned runs and eight strikeouts.

The Privateers (10-16) arrive after dropping two of three at Northwestern State, including a 6-5 loss on Sunday. New Orleans will rely on right-hander Riley Marcotte, who was excellent in relief in that defeat, throwing 5 1/3 hitless innings with one earned run and five strikeouts. Marcotte has been a bright spot, allowing just one earned run over his last 10 1/3 innings across two appearances.

This is a rematch of a March 3 meeting in New Orleans, which the Privateers won 11-6. In that game, Jackson State’s bullpen struggled, allowing eight runs over the final three innings.

Both teams have identical 10-win records, though Jackson State has played four fewer games. The Tigers’ schedule has included a 17-1 loss at Mississippi State last week.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, Jackson State is projected to win 6-3.

Following this contest, Jackson State opens a Southwestern Athletic Conference series at Bethune-Cookman on Friday. New Orleans begins Southland Conference play at Southeastern Louisiana on Friday.
