Michigan State at Central Michigan

Cold Weather Awaits as Spartans Visit Chippewas in Midweek Clash

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (Interstat) — Intrastate foes Michigan State and Central Michigan are set for a chilly nonconference baseball game Tuesday at Bill Theunissen Stadium.

First pitch is scheduled for the evening, with temperatures expected to be near freezing under cloudy skies.

The Central Michigan Chippewas (9-11) enter with a slightly better record than the visiting Michigan State Spartans (7-15), though both teams have struggled for consistency. The Chippewas are coming off an 11-inning, 6-5 win over Toledo on Sunday. Michigan State dropped its most recent game, an 8-3 loss to Iowa on Saturday.

A player to watch for the Spartans is Randy Seymour. The hitter has shown potent power recently, blasting three home runs and driving in 11 runs over his last 10 games, including a 3-for-3, five-RBI performance in a 15-5 win over Iowa on Saturday.

Central Michigan will likely look to its pitching staff, with Hayden Bailey a key figure. The pitcher delivered a solid start last time out, going 6 1/3 innings and allowing three earned runs in the win over Toledo.

The Interstat game simulator projects a tight, low-scoring affair, favoring Central Michigan 4-3.

This game is the first of a home-and-home series between the programs this season. They are scheduled to meet again in East Lansing on March 31.

For Michigan State, this begins a stretch of four straight games against in-state opponents. The Spartans host Purdue for a three-game Big Ten series starting Friday before the rematch with Central Michigan.

The Chippewas open Mid-American Conference play this weekend with a three-game series at Eastern Michigan starting Friday.
