Sacramento State at Pacific
STOCKTON, Calif. (Interstat) — The Pacific Tigers will look to secure a series victory when they host the Sacramento State Hornets in the finale of a four-game set Sunday evening at Klein Family Field.
First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. under clear skies with a forecast temperature of 72 degrees.
Pacific (8-10) has taken two of the first three games this week against its regional rival, including a 7-6 win on Saturday. The Tigers have shown resilience in the series, rebounding from a 10-0 midweek loss at Sacramento State with back-to-back one-run victories.
The Hornets (6-13) aim to salvage a series split after letting late leads slip away in the last two contests. Sacramento State’s bullpen will be a focal point, particularly reliever Jackson Halverson. The right-hander has been effective against Pacific this season, tossing 2 1/3 scoreless innings over two appearances, including two perfect frames with four strikeouts on Friday. However, his season has been inconsistent, with several outings where he has struggled to contain runs.
Pacific will counter with a key arm of its own in Zach Todd. The right-hander delivered four strong innings of relief in Friday’s 5-3 win over the Hornets, allowing one unearned run and striking out five. Todd has been a workhorse for the Tigers’ staff, logging at least four innings in four of his last five appearances.
The recent head-to-head meetings have been tightly contested, with three of the last four games decided by a single run. Interstat’s game simulator projects another close battle, predicting a 3-2 victory for Pacific.
Following Sunday’s game, Pacific will host Winthrop on Tuesday before a weekend series against Seattle. Sacramento State travels to face San Francisco on Tuesday before returning home to host Winthrop for three games starting Thursday.
