South Alabama at Louisiana-Lafayette

Sun Belt Series Finale Set for Sunday in Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, La. (Interstat) — A pivotal Sun Belt Conference baseball series concludes Sunday afternoon as the South Alabama Jaguars visit the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns at M.L. Tigue Moore Field.

First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. under clear skies with a game-time temperature of 73 degrees forecast.

The series is tied after a split of the first two games. Louisiana-Lafayette (14-5) evened the set with a 4-3 victory Saturday afternoon behind a complete-game, nine-strikeout performance from ace Andrew Herrmann. South Alabama (13-6) took the opener 3-2 on Friday.

Sunday’s matchup features a quick rematch on the mound. South Alabama will start right-hander Ryland Bozenhard, who took the loss in relief Saturday, allowing three earned runs over 5 2/3 innings. For Louisiana-Lafayette, Herrmann is not expected to pitch after his 127-pitch outing, but the Cajuns’ bullpen will aim to support a lineup that edged the Jaguars in the late innings a day prior.

Both teams enter with strong early-season records, setting the stage for a high-stakes rubber match. According to Interstat’s game simulator, a high-scoring affair is projected, with South Alabama favored 8-7.

Players to watch include South Alabama catcher Duncan Mathews, who hit a two-run homer Saturday, and Louisiana-Lafayette shortstop Blaze Rodriguez, who drove in a key run in the latest contest.

After Sunday, South Alabama returns home to host Alabama on Tuesday. Louisiana-Lafayette hits the road for a midweek game at Houston on Wednesday.
