Hawaii at Long Beach State
Hawaii Looks to Extend Winning Streak Against Struggling Long Beach State
LONG BEACH, Calif. (Interstat) — The Hawaii Warriors aim to build on a series-opening victory when they face the Long Beach State Dirtbags in Big West Conference baseball action Saturday at Blair Field.
First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. PDT under cloudy skies with a game-time temperature near 74 degrees.
Hawaii (8-5) defeated Long Beach State 6-0 on Friday night to begin the three-game set. The Warriors have won four of their last six games overall. The Dirtbags (4-12) have lost five straight and 10 of their last 11 contests.
A player to watch for Hawaii is catcher Jake Redding, who drove in three runs in the Warriors’ most recent loss to Cal Poly on March 8. Over his last 10 games, Redding is batting .250 (7-for-28) with five RBIs.
Long Beach State will look for a spark from reliever Joey Iglesias. The right-hander has not allowed a hit in his last two appearances, spanning 5.2 innings against USC and San Diego State. In that stretch, he has struck out six batters.
According to Interstat, Hawaii is projected to win with a 63.5% probability. The service’s game simulator predicts a final score of Hawaii 5, Long Beach State 2.
The series concludes Sunday afternoon. Hawaii then travels to face UC Santa Barbara next weekend, while Long Beach State hosts a doubleheader against Loyola Marymount on Tuesday before a road series at Cal State Bakersfield.
