Alabama A&M Looks to Continue Momentum Against Struggling Alcorn State

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (Interstat) — The Alabama A&M Bulldogs will look to build on a decisive conference victory when they host the Alcorn State Braves in a Southwestern Athletic Conference baseball matchup Saturday at Bulldog Field.

First pitch is scheduled for the afternoon under cloudy skies with temperatures near 63 degrees.

The Bulldogs (4-13) opened the three-game SWAC series with a 10-3 win Friday night. Alabama A&M’s Anthony Mateo was dominant in that victory, pitching seven strong innings, allowing two earned runs on seven hits while striking out five. He will be a key figure to watch again as the Bulldogs seek their second straight win.

Alcorn State (1-15) enters mired in a 10-game losing streak. The Braves’ last victory came on Feb. 20. A bright spot in Friday’s loss was reliever Devin Kriley, who tossed four hitless innings in relief, though he was charged with three earned runs. Kriley has shown swing-and-miss ability recently, recording five strikeouts Friday and seven over his last 6 1/3 innings.

Despite their records, Interstat’s game simulator projects a tight contest, favoring Alabama A&M by a narrow 1-0 margin.

The Bulldogs’ offense was powered Friday by Colin Mason, who drove in four runs, and Miles Jackson, who had three hits and two RBIs. Alcorn State’s Cooper Harris provided a spark with a two-run homer.

Alabama A&M will aim to secure the series win before Sunday’s finale. Alcorn State is searching for answers to snap its prolonged skid as conference play continues.
