Abilene Christian at Incarnate Word

SAN ANTONIO (Interstat) — The Abilene Christian Wildcats and Incarnate Word Cardinals, both seeking to climb above .500, meet in a non-conference afternoon matchup Wednesday at Roadrunner Field.

First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. under cloudy skies with a game-time temperature of 83 degrees.

The Wildcats (7-7) enter after splitting a four-game series with Rice, winning the finale 4-1 on Sunday behind a strong start from right-hander Cade McGarrh. He is a player to watch after tossing six innings of one-run ball with seven strikeouts in that victory. McGarrh has been inconsistent, however, surrendering five earned runs in just 1 1/3 innings against Oral Roberts on Feb. 22.

The Cardinals (7-8) are looking to rebound from a tough weekend, dropping two of three to Northwestern State, including a 7-6, 12-inning loss on Saturday. Their player to watch, right-hander EJ Garcia, took a no-decision in that contest, allowing three earned runs over eight innings. Garcia was stellar in a win over Prairie View on Feb. 22, going eight innings with one earned run allowed.

Offensively, Abilene Christian’s Diego Cardenas provided the power in Sunday’s win, hitting a home run. Incarnate Word’s Tony DeJesus also homered in the team’s most recent game.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Abilene Christian 6, Incarnate Word 5.

This is the first of two scheduled meetings between the teams this month. They will play again in Abilene on March 18.

Following this game, Abilene Christian begins a three-game home series against Loyola Marymount on Friday. Incarnate Word opens Southland Conference play on the road at New Orleans, also beginning Friday.
