Trojans Edge Bulldogs in Extra Innings, Upset Georgia
ATHENS, Ga. (Interstat) — Troy scored on a 12th-inning wild pitch to edge Georgia 6-5 on Wednesday afternoon at Athens Olympic Indoor Hall, overcoming late-inning rallies and a strong statistical projection favoring the Bulldogs.
The Trojans built a six-run lead behind home runs from Blake Cavill and Drew Nelson and three RBIs from Nolan Book. Georgia chipped away, highlighted by a two-run single from Tre Phelps in the eighth, to force extra innings. Troy’s bullpen trio of Matt Dill, Cooper Ellingworth and Brock Tapper combined for 7 2/3 scoreless innings of relief to secure the win.
Troy improved to 4-4. Georgia fell to 6-2 despite being projected by Interstat’s ELO system with a 69.7% win probability.
