Troy at Georgia
Preview: Troy Looks to Upset Georgia in Athens
ATHENS, Ga. (Interstat) — The surging Georgia Bulldogs, fresh off a historic offensive outburst, host the Troy Trojans in a non-conference baseball matchup Wednesday evening at Foley Field.
Georgia (6-1) enters with significant momentum after routing Samford 22-0 on Sunday, a game in which it blasted six home runs. First baseman Brennan Hudson was a key catalyst, going 2 for 3 with two homers and four RBIs. The Bulldogs have won six straight since a season-opening split, averaging over 11 runs per game during the streak.
Troy (3-4) seeks a signature road win after splitting a four-game series with Campbell, including an 8-4 victory Sunday. The Trojans will rely on left-hander Zach Crotchfelt, who delivered 3 1/3 scoreless innings of relief in that win. First baseman Blake Cavill, who hit a three-run homer Sunday, provides power in the lineup.
The Bulldogs hold a distinct advantage in recent performance. Their offense has been relentless, outscoring opponents 79-13 over the last five games. Troy’s season has been inconsistent, with a 19-3 win at Mercer followed by a 13-1 loss to Campbell the next day.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a close 7-6 Georgia victory, with its ELO rating system giving the Bulldogs a 69.7% chance to win.
First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. EST under cloudy skies with temperatures near 49 degrees.
