Howell Powers Flyers to Offensive Onslaught, Rout Rockets at Woerner Field
DAYTON, Ohio (Interstat) — Martin Howell homered and drove in five runs Wednesday as the Dayton Flyers pounded out 17 hits in an 18-8 victory over the Toledo Rockets at Woerner Field.
The Flyers (5-2) erased an early deficit with a nine-run second inning, highlighted by a three-run homer from Danny MacDougall and Howell’s two-run shot. Howell finished 3 for 4. Colin Lynch added three RBIs for Dayton.
Toledo (1-6) managed 11 hits, including a two-run homer from Ty O’Brien and two RBIs from Troy Sudbrook, but its pitching staff struggled. Dayton reliever Carson Samuels earned the win with 2 1/3 scoreless innings.
The result far exceeded Interstat’s projection of a 7-2 Dayton win.
