Toledo at Dayton

DAYTON, Ohio (Interstat) — The struggling Toledo Rockets look to snap a four-game skid when they visit the surging Dayton Flyers in a nonconference baseball matchup Wednesday afternoon at Woerner Field.

First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. under cloudy skies with temperatures near 35 degrees.

The Rockets (1-5) arrive reeling after being swept in a three-game series at Jacksonville State, culminating in a 12-9 loss Sunday. Toledo’s lone win came in its season opener at Memphis on Feb. 13.

A bright spot in the recent slide was reliever Hayden Frey. In Sunday’s loss, the right-hander delivered 3 2/3 hitless and scoreless innings of relief, striking out two. He will be a key arm for Toledo.

Dayton (4-2) has won four of its last five, including taking two of three from Eastern Kentucky last weekend. The Flyers won the series finale 3-1 on Saturday behind a strong start from Austin McNabb. The right-hander went 5 1/3 innings, allowing two hits and one earned run while striking out six.

Offensively, Dayton second baseman Danny MacDougall went 3 for 3 in that victory.

The Flyers’ offense erupted for 17 runs in a win over Eastern Kentucky on Feb. 20, part of a doubleheader split that day.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-2 victory for Dayton.

Following Wednesday’s game, Toledo begins a four-game series at Lipscomb on Friday. Dayton opens a home-and-home series with Ohio on the road Friday.
