Tulane at South Alabama
MOBILE, Ala. (Interstat) — Two surging teams with identical records will meet Wednesday when the Tulane Green Wave visits the South Alabama Jaguars in a nonconference baseball matchup at Eddie Stanky Field.
First pitch is set for the evening under cloudy skies with temperatures around 50 degrees.
Both teams enter at 5-2 overall. Tulane is riding a three-game winning streak after sweeping a weekend series against Harvard, outscoring the Crimson 29-11. South Alabama took two of three on the road at College of Charleston, dropping the series finale 7-6 on Sunday.
A key matchup will feature standout starting pitchers from each squad. Tulane is expected to lean on right-hander Jack Frankel, who delivered a dominant performance in his last outing. On Feb. 22, Frankel pitched seven strong innings, allowing one earned run on seven hits with three strikeouts in an 11-1 win over Harvard.
South Alabama will counter with right-hander Daniel Gonzalez. In his last start on Feb. 22, Gonzalez was effective over five innings against College of Charleston, yielding two earned runs on no hits with five strikeouts, though he took the loss in a 7-6 contest.
Offensively, Tulane’s lineup is coming off a powerful showing. In Sunday’s win, shortstop KaiKea Harrison drove in four runs while left fielder Tye Wood added two RBIs. For South Alabama, third baseman Stewart Puckett provided a spark in the last game, going 2-for-5 with a home run and an RBI.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, this contest projects to be a high-scoring affair, with a predicted final score of Tulane 8, South Alabama 7.
Following Wednesday’s game, Tulane will host Eastern Kentucky for a three-game series starting Friday. South Alabama returns home to welcome West Georgia for a three-game set beginning Friday.
