Oral Roberts at Abilene Christian
ABILENE, Texas (Interstat) — The Oral Roberts Golden Eagles and Abilene Christian Wildcats will decide their three-game series in a Sunday afternoon finale at Kimbrell Arena, with first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m. under clear skies and a temperature of 51 degrees.
The series is knotted at one game apiece. Abilene Christian (3-2) evened things with a commanding 12-3 victory on Saturday, powered by a huge day from shortstop Zandt Payne, who went 2-for-5 with two home runs and five RBIs. Oral Roberts (3-3) took the opener 9-2 on Friday.
Payne, who was held hitless in the series opener, will again be a focal point for the Wildcats’ offense. On the mound, the Golden Eagles will look to reliever Keaton Ruthardt, who provided two scoreless innings with four strikeouts in Saturday’s loss and is a key player to watch.
Both teams enter with .500 or better records in the early season. Following this contest, Oral Roberts begins a busy stretch with a road game at Missouri State on Tuesday. Abilene Christian heads to Cleburne, Texas, next weekend for a neutral-site series against Texas State.
Statistical projections offer a split verdict. Interstat’s game simulator predicts a 7-5 Wildcats victory, while its ELO rating system gives the Golden Eagles a slight edge with a 53.7% probability to win.
The game will be the final meeting between the teams this regular season.
