Irapuato vs. Diablos Rojos
MEXICO CITY (Interstat) — The Diablos Rojos will try to move to 2-0 when they host Irapuato on Thursday in a Mexican LNBP matchup.
Diablos Rojos opened their season Saturday with an 87-67 victory at Dorados. Devon Scott paced the home side with 15 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and a block. He has been productive throughout recent weeks, posting a 25-point, 10-rebound outing against Aguascalientes on July 24 and a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double at Dorados on July 31.
Irapuato enters with an 0-0 record, opening its season Thursday. The visiting team will lean on Franger Pirela, who has shown consistent playmaking ability. Pirela recorded 25 points, five rebounds and 10 assists against Zacatecas on July 30, and he followed with 17 points and six assists at Dorados on July 25. In the two-game set at Dorados, he totaled 30 points, 11 rebounds and 13 assists.
Irapuato’s most recent result was a 105-93 loss to Zacatecas on July 30. Diablos Rojos also received strong support in their opener from Yan Barbosa, who scored 17 points, and Trey Drechsel, who added 18 points and six rebounds.
The teams met Wednesday in the first game of this home-and-away series. Irapuato will return home after Thursday’s contest to host Correcaminos on Aug. 10-11, while Diablos Rojos will host Fuerza Regia on Aug. 9-10.
Interstat’s ELO system projects Diablos Rojos with an 89.4 percent probability of victory. Diablos Rojos will likely rely on Scott to control the paint again, while Irapuato will need Pirela to orchestrate the offense and create scoring chances against a defense that limited Dorados to 67 points in the opener.
Thursday’s game is scheduled at Diablos Rojos’ home court.
