Jal. Astros vs. Leon

LEON, Mexico (Interstat) — The Jal. Astros will try to sweep a two-game series when they face Leon on Thursday, Aug. 6, at Domo de la Feria in Mexican LNBP action.

Jal. Astros (1-1) defeated Leon (0-1) 103-90 on Wednesday in the opener. Paco Cruz scored 18 points, grabbed four rebounds and handed out six assists in 29 minutes for the Astros. Cruz has been the team’s top backcourt threat, though his production has fluctuated. He scored 19 points July 25 at Gambusinos and 15 points the night before, but managed only five points in each of his previous two games against Lobos Plateados.

Leon will lean on Ticket Gaines, who also scored 17 points in Wednesday’s loss, adding seven rebounds and three assists in 26 minutes. Gaines opened the season with back-to-back wins over Correcaminos, scoring 18 and 12 points, and has been Leon’s most consistent offensive presence.

Jal. also received strong support from Gage Davis, who finished with 17 points, seven rebounds and three assists in the series opener, and Yoanki Mansia, who added 14 points. For Leon, Deion McClenton posted 13 points, six rebounds and two blocks, while A.J. Banks contributed eight points and seven assists.

Interstat’s ELO system projects Jal. with a 72.80 percent probability to win Thursday, reflecting the Astros’ stronger start. Jal. lost its season opener Aug. 1 to Lobos Plateados 79-71 before bouncing back Wednesday.

After Thursday, Jal. returns home for a two-game series against San Luis Potosi on Aug. 11-12, then visits Zacatecas on Aug. 15-16. Leon will travel to Soles on Aug. 11-12, then host Aguascalientes on Aug. 15-16.

The rematch is set for Thursday evening in Leon, with the Astros aiming for a road sweep and Leon looking to bounce back from a tough home loss.
