Guasave vs. Jal. Astros

GUADALAJARA, Mexico (Interstat) — The Jal. Astros, owners of the best record in the CIBACOPA, host the Guasave Frayles on Tuesday night at Unidad Deportiva Avila Camacho in a matchup that pits the league’s elite against a streaking challenger.

The Astros enter the game with a dominant 73-12 record, while the Frayles sit at 30-17. Jal. Astros have won all four head-to-head meetings this season, though the margins have been close. In the most recent matchup on May 13, the Astros defeated Guasave 93-81. The previous night, Jal. Astros won 103-93. Earlier in the season, the Astros took two games in Guasave by scores of 103-95 and 106-99.

Jal. Astros are coming off a 96-76 win at Ciudad de Mexico on Friday. Forward Tyran de Lattibeaudiere posted 19 points, 10 rebounds and four assists in that game. Over his past five contests, de Lattibeaudiere has recorded three double-doubles, including a 20-point, 10-rebound performance against Ciudad de Mexico on June 5. Center Makhi Mitchell added 21 points and 13 boards in the most recent victory.

Guasave, meanwhile, has won eight of its last 10 games. The Frayles defeated Obregon 101-81 on Thursday behind 22 points and seven rebounds from guard Octavio Brito. In his last four games, Brito has averaged 15 points and shot efficiently, including a 22-point effort in a narrow loss to Los Mochis on May 23. Guard Sa’eed Nelson had 14 points and five assists in the win over Obregon, while center Jay Pal contributed 23 points and five boards.

The Frayles have been competitive on the road, but will need to solve a Jal. Astros team that has been nearly unbeatable at home. The Astros have won 10 of their last 11 games overall, with the lone blemish a 93-92 loss at Ciudad de Mexico on June 10.

Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. local time.
