Margarita vs. Carabobo

VALENCIA, Venezuela (Interstat) — The Guaiqueries de Margarita visit the Trotamundos de Carabobo on Tuesday night at Forum de Valencia in a Venezuelan SLB matchup featuring two closely matched teams.

Margarita (16-9) holds a one-game advantage over Carabobo (15-10) in the overall standings. The Guaiqueries have won three of the four head-to-head meetings this season, including a 72-67 victory Friday at Margarita.

Forward Juan Guerrero has been the catalyst for Margarita, posting double-doubles in three of his past four games. In Friday’s win over Carabobo, Guerrero played 29 minutes and finished with 21 points and 12 rebounds. He also recorded 20 points and 16 rebounds in a 71-67 win at Portuguesa on April 29, and 23 points with 11 rebounds in an 83-74 victory against Zulia on April 21. Guerrero’s production has been a key factor in Margarita’s 3-2 record over its last five games, which includes a 99-67 rout at Miranda on May 1.

Carabobo (15-10) enters the game on a two-game losing streak, falling 76-74 to Portuguesa on May 4 before the 72-67 defeat to Margarita. Center Donta Smith led Carabobo in the most recent matchup with 16 points, eight rebounds and three assists in 30 minutes. Smith’s playing time has fluctuated this season: He logged just nine minutes in a 93-71 win at Falcons on May 1 and 15 minutes in the loss to Portuguesa. However, he played 26 minutes and contributed 10 points, six rebounds and six assists in a 92-74 win over Avila on April 21.

The teams last met Monday, but that result was not immediately available. Margarita’s April 19 visit to Carabobo ended in a 98-67 blowout victory for the Guaiqueries, while Carabobo claimed an 89-83 home win over Margarita on March 25.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. local time.
