CARACAS (Interstat) — Anyeuri Alberto Castillo Correa scored 24 points to lead Avila to a 77-71 victory over the Caracas Cocodrilos on Monday in Venezuelan SLB play. Avila, improving to 15-13, used a 24-14 third quarter to erase a 44-37 halftime deficit. Kelby Kramer had 10 points and 11 rebounds, Jarell Eddie added 16 points and nine rebounds, and Elian Centeno grabbed 10 rebounds for Avila. Luis Montero led Caracas with 11 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists, while Luis Colon scored 15 and Evert Bernal 13. Luis Bethelmy added 10 points and six rebounds. Caracas, which dropped to 19-6, led 18-16 after the first quarter and 44-37 at halftime but struggled in the second half, scoring 14 in the third and 13 in the fourth. Avila avenged a 68-66 loss to Caracas on Friday. The teams meet again Tuesday.
