MAR DEL PLATA, Argentina (Interstat) — Facundo Vazquez scored 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Peñarol to an 87-75 victory over Ferro Carril Oeste on Thursday night at Polideportivo Islas Malvinas.

Peñarol improved to 17-17 across all competitions while Ferro Carril Oeste fell to 21-15. The home team capitalized on a sharp free-throw advantage, making 30 of 44 attempts compared to Ferro’s 14 of 21. Peñarol also outrebounded the visitors 37-26.

Jose Defelippo led Ferro with 17 points and eight rebounds. Kevin Hernandez added 15 points and four boards. Luciano Guerra contributed 16 points and six rebounds for Peñarol, and Al Thornton scored 18 points.

Peñarol shot 50 percent from the field to Ferro’s 43.5 percent. Both teams hit seven 3-pointers. Peñarol committed 21 turnovers but forced 13 from Ferro. The teams meet again Saturday at the same venue.
