Ferro Carril Oeste vs. Peñarol

MAR DEL PLATA, Argentina (Interstat) — Peñarol hosts Ferro Carril Oeste on Thursday night at Polideportivo Islas Malvinas in an Argentinian Liga A matchup that carries playoff implications for both sides.

Ferro Carril Oeste (21-14 overall) enters the game riding a wave of momentum, having won five of its last six contests. The visiting side has been particularly dominant against Thursday’s opponent, taking the last two head-to-head meetings — an 80-78 win Sunday and a 97-91 victory Friday, both in Buenos Aires.

Emiliano Lezcano has been a driving force for Ferro in those games. The small forward logged 17 points, three rebounds and two assists in 35 minutes Sunday, and followed with 14 points, four rebounds and four assists in 31 minutes Friday. Over his last six outings, Lezcano has averaged 14.5 points on efficient shooting, including a 22-point performance in a one-point loss to Obera on April 8.

Peñarol (16-17) returns home seeking to snap a five-game losing streak. The team’s most recent win came April 4 against Santa Fe, 85-83. In the two losses to Ferro this past week, guard Sean Armand led the way with 20 points Sunday and 15 points Friday. Armand has scored in double figures in four of his last five games, though Peñarol has dropped all but one of those.

The home side will also rely on center Ivan Basualdo, who posted 10 points and seven rebounds Sunday, and forward Al Thornton, who added nine points and six boards.

Thursday’s game marks the third meeting between the teams in seven days, and the first at Polideportivo Islas Malvinas this season. Ferro Carril Oeste holds a 3-0 record in the season series, including a 97-84 win on Sept. 28, 2025.

Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. local time.
