Scarborough vs. Ottawa

OTTAWA (Interstat) — The Scarborough Shooting Stars, riding an eight-game winning streak and boasting the best record in the Canadian Elite Basketball League, visit TD Place on Tuesday to face the Ottawa Blackjacks.

Scarborough (11-2) enters the 7 p.m. matchup following a dominant 108-80 home victory over Ottawa on June 19. That win extended the Shooting Stars’ streak, during which they have outscored opponents by an average of 13.1 points per game. Scarborough’s only two losses this season came on the road: an 88-82 setback at Saskatoon on May 31 and a 107-106 defeat at Calgary on May 28 that required overtime.

Forward Akoi Yuot is a key player for Scarborough. In the June 19 meeting with Ottawa, Yuot logged 34 minutes and recorded 24 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and one block. He has contributed in a reserve role in recent games, playing 16 minutes against Fraser Valley (five points, three rebounds) and 17 minutes against Edmonton (six points, four rebounds), but his production exploded when given extended court time against the Blackjacks.

Ottawa (6-9) has lost six of its past seven games. The Blackjacks fell 94-96 at Saskatoon on June 15, then lost 95-104 at Fraser Valley on June 13. Their most recent home game was an 88-117 loss to Winnipeg on June 4.

Forward Matthew Cleveland has been Ottawa’s most consistent performer. In the June 19 loss to Scarborough, Cleveland played 34 minutes and posted 28 points, six rebounds and three assists. Over his past five games, he has averaged 27.6 points and 7.4 rebounds while playing at least 31 minutes in each contest. He scored 35 points with 10 rebounds in a 114-105 win over Fraser Valley on June 2.

The Blackjacks will look to protect home court after dropping three straight at TD Place. Ottawa’s schedule does not get easier: after Tuesday’s game, the team hosts Niagara on June 28 before a four-game road trip.

Scarborough continues its push toward the postseason with a homestand beginning June 27 against Hamilton. The Shooting Stars have already clinched a winning record, but sit atop the CEBL standings and aim to extend their lead.

The two teams meet again on July 18 in Scarborough and July 22 in Ottawa.
