LA BANDA, Argentina (Interstat) — Peñarol built a large early lead and cruised to an 87-74 victory over Olimpico in Argentinian Liga A basketball Wednesday at Estadio Vicente Rosales. The visitors led by eight after one quarter and extended the margin to 45-37 by halftime. Olimpico never threatened in the second half.

Sean Armand led all scorers with 21 points for Peñarol. Al Thornton added 17 points and five assists, while Ivan Basualdo posted a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Jose Ascanio paced Olimpico with 18 points and six rebounds.

Peñarol improved to 10-8 with the win, while Olimpico fell to 8-13. The result defied a national statistical projection that heavily favored the home team.
