Peñarol vs. Olimpico
Preview: Peñarol at Olimpico in Liga A Clash
LA BANDA, Argentina (Interstat) — A mid-table Liga A showdown is set for Wednesday when Peñarol visits Olimpico at Estadio Vicente Rosales.
The visiting Peñarol (9-7) holds a slight edge in the standings over Olimpico (8-12) and won the season’s first meeting, 82-76, on Dec. 10. Both teams are looking to build momentum as the Argentinian league season progresses.
Peñarol aims to bounce back from an 81-73 home loss to Obras Sanitarias on Jan. 23. Guard Luciano Guerra has been a consistent offensive force, averaging 13.5 points over his last four games. He erupted for 23 points and eight rebounds in the recent loss.
Olimpico enters with confidence after an 84-75 road victory over Argentino de Junin on Feb. 1. Center Gonzalo Bressan dominated that contest with 18 points and 13 rebounds, part of a strong stretch where he has recorded three double-doubles in his last eight games. His interior battle with Peñarol’s Roberto Acuna, who had 16 points and seven rebounds last outing, will be pivotal.
Peñarol’s recent form has been mixed, going 2-2 in its last four, including an overtime win and a one-point loss. Olimpico has shown resilience at home, winning three of its last four in La Banda, but has struggled for consistency overall.
Following this contest, Peñarol’s next game is Feb. 15 against Argentino de Junin. Olimpico hosts Gimnasia Indalo on Feb. 10.
Tip-off is scheduled for Wednesday night.
