Correcaminos vs. Diablos Rojos

MEXICO CITY (Interstat) — The Diablos Rojos delivered a commanding offensive performance, overwhelming the Correcaminos 114-84 in a Liga Nacional de Baloncesto Profesional (LNBP) contest Saturday night.

For the second consecutive night, the home team proved too much for Correcaminos to handle, following a 105-80 defeat on Friday. The Diablos Rojos’ offense was historically efficient, scoring 114 points on 81 possessions for an offensive rating of 140.6, a figure that far outpaced Correcaminos’ 104.2 rating.

The game was effectively decided in a dominant second quarter. After a competitive first period that ended with Diablos Rojos holding a narrow 21-23 lead, the home team erupted for 37 points in the second quarter. This offensive explosion, which more than doubled Correcaminos’ 14-point output in the period, sent Diablos Rojos into halftime with a commanding 58-37 advantage. Correcaminos was unable to mount a significant challenge in the second half.

Malik Dime and Daishon Smith led the charge for Diablos Rojos, each contributing a game-high 23 points. Dime, a power forward, was a force on both ends, adding nine rebounds and two assists in just 18 minutes of play. Smith, the team’s point guard, provided 23 points, four rebounds, and four assists in 15 minutes. Argentine shooting guard Luciano Gonzalez orchestrated the offense with 17 points and five assists.

The Diablos Rojos shot a blistering 60.3 percent from the floor, connecting on 44 of 73 attempts, and were nearly as effective from beyond the arc, hitting 12 of 25 three-pointers. They also controlled the glass, outrebounding Correcaminos 37-23.

Roddy Peters was the top scorer for Correcaminos with 23 points and four assists. Taylor Johnson added 16 points, while center Charles Garcia of Los Angeles contributed 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds. The team struggled with ball security, committing 16 turnovers that led to 11 steals for the opportunistic Diablos Rojos defense.

With the victory, Diablos Rojos improved their season record to 10-6, solidifying their position near the top of the LNBP standings. Correcaminos fell to 7-8 with the loss, their second in a row.

The final combined score of 198 points fell under the sportsbook over/under line of 183.5. The result was a stark contrast to the pregame projection from Interstat’s game simulator, which had forecast a much lower-scoring affair with a final of 72-57. Their ELO system had given Diablos Rojos a 93.8 percent probability of winning.

Diablos Rojos now travel to face Cancun El Calor for a two-game series beginning Friday. Correcaminos will look to rebound on the road against Fuerza Regia, also starting Friday.
