Soles vs. Leon

LEON DE LOS ALDAMA, Mexico (Interstat) — The Soles used a dominant fourth-quarter surge to overcome a halftime deficit and defeat Leon 90-83 in a Mexican LNBP matchup Wednesday night at Domo de la Feria.

The visitors closed the game on a 29-17 run, erasing a 45-43 Leon lead at the break to secure their 13th win of the season. The victory improved Soles’ record to 13-2 across all competitions, while Leon fell to 2-15.

Soles point guard Joshua Webster orchestrated the offense with a game-high 12 assists to go along with 13 points in 29 minutes of play. His playmaking was pivotal in breaking down the Leon defense, especially in the final period.

Leon was led by point guard Joseph Ruben Soto, who posted a statline of 13 points and 8 assists. His backcourt partner, Elijah Weaver, was the game’s leading scorer with 18 points. Despite their efforts, Leon could not sustain its first-half momentum.

The game was a tale of two halves. Leon controlled the second quarter, outscoring Soles 25-19 to take a narrow lead into the locker room. However, Soles’ efficiency proved decisive. They shot 46.2% from the floor and a blistering 46.2% from three-point range, connecting on 12 of 26 attempts from beyond the arc. They also capitalized at the free-throw line, making 16 of 19 attempts.

Leon shot a slightly higher percentage from the field at 51.6% but were less effective from deep, making only 8 of 20 three-point attempts. A key differential was in turnovers, as Leon committed 17 to Soles’ 14, and on the glass, where Soles held a 34-29 rebounding advantage, including a 9-5 edge on the offensive boards.

Soles’ scoring was balanced, with five players reaching double figures. Along with Webster’s 13, Micheal Warren scored 13, Lucas Martinez added 13, center Brandon McCoy contributed 12 points and 7 rebounds, and Donald Sims of Gaffney, S.C., chipped in 11 points.

For Leon, Makhi Mitchell provided a bright spot off the bench with a team-high 15 points, while Juan Contreras added 12 points and 5 rebounds.

The win keeps Soles near the top of the LNBP standings, while Leon continues to search for consistency. The two teams are scheduled for a quick rematch Thursday night at the same venue. Soles will then travel to face Xalapa on Sept. 26 and 27, while Leon will host Jal. Astros on those same dates.
