Dallas vs. New York

NEW YORK (Interstat) — The New York Liberty look to bounce back from a loss when they host the Dallas Wings on Sunday at Barclays Center in a matchup of teams with contrasting recent fortunes.

Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. EDT. New York (3-2) comes off a 87-70 defeat to the Golden State Valkyries on Thursday, while Dallas (3-3) dropped its last game 86-69 at Atlanta on Friday.

The Liberty have been powered by forward Breanna Stewart, who is averaging 22 points, 9.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists over her last five games. In the loss to Golden State, Stewart logged 18 points, nine rebounds and two assists in 30 minutes. She also posted a 31-point, 10-rebound double-double against Connecticut on May 8.

Dallas counters with forward Jessica Shepard, who has been a stat-sheet filler. Over her last six games, Shepard has averaged 11.7 points, 9.8 rebounds and 6.0 assists, including a triple-double (18 points, 10 rebounds, 12 assists) in a 99-89 win at Chicago on May 20. She also grabbed 16 rebounds in a 92-69 victory over Washington on May 18.

The Wings, however, have lost three of their last four and are struggling with consistency. Their three wins have come by an average of 9.3 points, while their three losses have all been by single digits except the 17-point loss to Atlanta.

New York has been strong at home, where it is 2-1 this season. The Liberty’s only home loss came to Golden State. They have also shown offensive firepower, scoring 100 or more points twice, including a 106-75 rout of Connecticut.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 92-77 victory for New York, which would give the Liberty their fourth win in five games. The Liberty are expected to lean on Stewart and center Jonquel Jones, who had 16 points and eight rebounds against Golden State.

Dallas will need Shepard to continue her all-around production and get support from guards like Aziaha James and forward Awak Kuier, who scored 15 points in the loss to Atlanta.

The Wings are 1-2 on the road this season. New York is 1-2 away from home.

Following Sunday’s game, the Liberty host Portland on Monday before a three-game homestand against Phoenix. Dallas returns home to face Las Vegas on Thursday.
