LAS VEGAS (Interstat) — Brittney Sykes scored 31 points with seven rebounds and six assists, and Marina Mabrey added 30 points and six 3-pointers, leading the Toronto Tempo past the Phoenix Mercury 98-90 on Tuesday night. Toronto opened the fourth quarter on a 12-4 run to take an 85-78 lead. Maria Conde and Kiki Rice each scored in the lane, and after a Phoenix turnover, the Tempo led 93-86 with 2:32 left. Mabrey’s sixth 3-pointer from the corner made it 96-90 with 1:25 remaining. Alyssa Thomas paced Phoenix with 17 points and eight assists. Kahleah Copper scored 18 points, and Natasha Mack had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Toronto shot 15 of 36 from 3-point range, while Phoenix made just 4 of 22. Toronto made 15 of 18 free throws, Phoenix 22 of 28. Toronto outscored Phoenix 25-16 in the fourth quarter. The Tempo improved to 3-2, Phoenix fell to 2-3. Attendance was 9,337 at Michelob Ultra Arena.
