Saint Lawrence Saints at New Hampshire Wildcats

LEE, N.H. (Interstat) — Saint Lawrence will visit New Hampshire for a women’s NCAA Division I hockey game Friday at the Whittemore Center. The Saints enter with a 1-6 record, while the Wildcats are 3-3-1. The matchup offers Saint Lawrence a chance to build momentum and New Hampshire an opportunity to protect home ice.

Saint Lawrence has struggled offensively during a demanding start, scoring three goals in two games but being held to one goal or fewer in four others. The Saints dropped a 3-1 decision at Clarkson in their most recent game and have been shut out twice. Cheyenne Degeer is the player to watch for Saint Lawrence. The center has been involved in several of the Saints’ best offensive moments, recording two goals and seven shots on goal in a 4-3 loss at Maine earlier this season. Degeer also had an assist and three shots on goal in the most recent meeting against New Hampshire, a 3-1 Wildcats win. She added an assist and three shots on goal in the loss at Clarkson and has shown the ability to create chances from the middle of the ice.

New Hampshire enters after a 6-3 loss at Northeastern. The Wildcats have leaned on goaltender Noemi Martinez. Martinez is the player to watch for New Hampshire. She made 32 saves on 33 shots in the Wildcats’ 3-1 win over Saint Lawrence in the most recent head-to-head meeting. She also stopped 25 shots in a 3-0 win at Long Island and turned aside 41 shots in a loss at Northeastern. Martinez has faced heavy volume, giving New Hampshire a steady presence in net even when opponents generate long stretches of pressure.

The most recent meeting between the teams went to New Hampshire, which used Martinez’s goaltending and goals from Sofia Kari and Addison Spitz to hold off Saint Lawrence. Kennedy Emerson scored for the Saints, while Jaylee MacKinnon recorded four shots on goal. Saint Lawrence will need a more complete offensive effort to reverse that result.

After this game, Saint Lawrence will host Penn State in its next two games. New Hampshire will host Stonehill in its next game before going on the road. The Wildcats will look to use their home ice and goaltending to control the pace, while the Saints will try to turn Degeer’s chances into goals and end their recent slide.

Interstat’s game simulator projects New Hampshire to defeat Saint Lawrence 2-1.
