WORCESTER (Interstat) — The Sacred Heart Pioneers will look to secure their first win of the season when they visit the Assumption Greyhounds in a women’s NCAA Division I hockey game on Friday at Laska Gymnasium in Worcester, Mass.

Sacred Heart enters at 0-2 after a 3-0 loss at Providence in its most recent game. The Pioneers have scored two goals in two games and also dropped an earlier 4-2 home decision to Providence. In the most recent outing, Grayson Limke recorded two shots on goal, Ella Holm added one shot on goal and two penalty minutes, and Magda Felcmanova finished with two shots on goal.

Felcmanova, a player to watch for Sacred Heart, also had one shot on goal in the earlier meeting with Providence. The Pioneers will need production from her and their top forwards as they seek to break through against an unbeaten Assumption team.

Assumption enters at 2-0-1 after a 2-2 tie at Holy Cross in double overtime in its most recent game. The Greyhounds have scored six goals in a win over Saint Michael’s and two more in another victory over Saint Michael’s earlier this season. Their offense has been balanced, with Alexa Hanrahan among the key contributors.

Hanrahan, a player to watch for Assumption, had one goal, four shots on goal and one hit in the tie at Holy Cross. In the 6-2 win over Saint Michael’s, she recorded two assists, six shots on goal and two penalty minutes. She also had four shots on goal in the 2-1 win over Saint Michael’s. Haven Mills added one goal and two shots on goal in the tie, while Kayla McGaffigan had two shots on goal.

The Greyhounds will aim to remain unbeaten on home ice at Laska Gymnasium. Assumption has opened the season with strong offensive pressure and will look to use its home crowd to control pace. Sacred Heart, meanwhile, will try to tighten defensively after allowing three goals to Providence in its most recent game and four in the prior contest. Both teams are in the early portion of their schedules.

Sacred Heart’s schedule continues with a return trip to Assumption and a series against Long Island. The Pioneers and Greyhounds are scheduled to meet again in their next matchup. Assumption’s upcoming slate includes a game at Saint Anselm and a home meeting with Saint Anselm, followed by a trip to Mercyhurst. But first, the focus for both teams is Friday’s matchup at Laska Gymnasium.
