Clarkson Golden Knights at Saint Lawrence Saints
CANTON, N.Y. (Interstat) — Clarkson and Saint Lawrence will meet in a women’s NCAA Division I hockey game Thursday when the Golden Knights visit the Saints at Appleton Arena.
Clarkson enters 2-2 after a 4-0 loss at Connecticut in its most recent game. The Golden Knights were shut out despite pressure from Sara Manness, who recorded six shots on goal. Jessie Pellerin added four shots, and Keira Hurry finished with seven shots and two penalty minutes. Earlier this season, Clarkson defeated RIT 6-3 and 8-1 at home and fell 3-2 at Connecticut.
Manness, a center, is Clarkson’s player to watch. Over her past four games, she has totaled three goals, two assists and 18 shots on goal. She had one goal and five shots at Connecticut, one assist and four shots against RIT, and two goals, one assist and three shots in the earlier RIT meeting. She also had six shots in the most recent loss to Connecticut.
Saint Lawrence is 1-3 and coming off a 3-0 win at Maine. Maja Helge made 32 saves in that victory. Jaylee MacKinnon and Brooke Mulvihill each scored one goal, with Mulvihill recording five shots. The Saints also dropped a 4-3 game at Maine and lost twice to Wisconsin. Wisconsin won 6-2 and 6-0 in the teams’ two meetings.
Helge, a goalkeeper, is Saint Lawrence’s player to watch. In her most recent start, she stopped all 32 shots she faced against Maine. She also made 30 saves on 36 shots against Wisconsin. Her play in net will be central for the Saints against a Clarkson offense that scored 14 goals in two wins over RIT.
Clarkson’s offense has shown depth, with Manness among the primary chance generators. The Golden Knights will look to pressure Saint Lawrence early and generate traffic in front of Helge. Saint Lawrence will aim to build on its road win and limit Clarkson’s shot volume. Clarkson has scored 16 goals and allowed 11 in four games this season. Saint Lawrence has scored eight goals and allowed 16. Appleton Arena is expected to host a tightly contested matchup between the North Country programs.
The teams will meet again later in the home-and-home series, with Clarkson scheduled to host the return game. Clarkson is then set to host Franklin Pierce for two games and Providence for two games. Saint Lawrence is scheduled to visit New Hampshire for two games before hosting Penn State for two games.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a final score of Clarkson 3, Saint Lawrence 2.
