RIT Tigers at Clarkson Golden Knights
POTSDAM, N.Y. (Interstat) — RIT will visit Clarkson on Saturday for a women’s NCAA Division I hockey game at Cheel Arena. The Tigers enter with a 0-1 record, while the Golden Knights are 1-0.
Clarkson will be the home team in Potsdam, New York, looking to build on a strong start. RIT will be the visiting team, seeking its first win of the season. The matchup features two programs at different early-season points, with Clarkson already having a victory and RIT aiming to rebound after a loss. Clarkson’s home crowd at Cheel Arena could play a role, while RIT will try to settle into the game early and generate traffic in front of the net.
Addie Alvarez is a player to watch for RIT. In the Tigers’ most recent game, a 6-3 loss to Clarkson, Alvarez recorded one goal, three shots on goal and four penalty minutes. She was among RIT’s most productive players in that contest, along with Zoe Ziotas, who scored one goal on three shots, and Laura Dyke, who added one goal on four shots with one hit.
Sara Manness is a player to watch for Clarkson. In the Golden Knights’ 6-3 win over RIT, Manness posted two goals, one assist and three shots on goal. Layla Matthew also scored twice and recorded five shots on goal with two penalty minutes, while Kennedy Sisson contributed one goal, one assist and five shots on goal.
The most recent head-to-head meeting between the teams ended with Clarkson defeating RIT 6-3. That result gave the Golden Knights momentum in the series and handed the Tigers an early setback. RIT will need a stronger defensive effort and timely scoring to keep pace on the road. Clarkson will look to use its home ice and depth to control play. Special teams could also shape the contest if either side spends significant time in the penalty box.
For RIT, limiting Clarkson’s top forwards will be important. The Golden Knights showed balance in their most recent game, with multiple players contributing goals and assists. The Tigers showed they can generate chances as well, as Alvarez, Ziotas and Dyke all found the net in the previous meeting. Converting those chances and avoiding penalties could be key for RIT.
Clarkson’s upcoming schedule includes games against Connecticut, Saint Lawrence, Franklin Pierce, Providence, Harvard and Dartmouth. RIT’s next stretch includes matchups with Colgate, Delaware, Brown, Northeastern and Penn State. Both teams will use the game on Saturday as part of an early-season test before conference and nonconference play continue.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a final score of Clarkson 3, RIT 2. Interstat’s ELO system projects Clarkson with an 85.6 percent probability to win.
