Quinnipiac Bobcats at Maine Black Bears

ORONO, Maine (Interstat) — Quinnipiac will put its unbeaten start on the line Saturday when the Bobcats visit Maine for a women’s NCAA Division I hockey game at Alfond Arena.

Quinnipiac enters 1-0 after a 2-1 win at Maine in the teams’ most recent meeting. The Black Bears are 0-1 and seeking their first victory of the season. The Bobcats will look to carry momentum from that result into a road environment against a Maine team still searching for consistency. The teams’ most recent meeting was decided by one goal, and another close game could hinge on goaltending, special teams and the ability to convert limited chances.

Casey Clausen is the player to watch for Quinnipiac. In her most recent performance, a 2-1 win, she made 35 saves on 36 shots. Clausen’s play in net gave the Bobcats a sturdy defensive foundation, and Quinnipiac also received goals from Alex Law and Ella Johnson in that game. Law finished with one goal on four shots and two penalty minutes, while Johnson scored once on two shots and added one hit. Their contributions helped Quinnipiac secure the narrow win and will be important again as the Bobcats face a Maine side eager to respond. If Clausen can replicate her recent form, Quinnipiac will be difficult to beat.

Lily Fetch is the player to watch for Maine. In her most recent game, a 2-1 loss, Fetch scored one goal on one shot. She was among the Black Bears’ most productive players in that outing, along with Gracie Hanson and Mikayla Boarder. Hanson recorded one assist on one shot and two penalty minutes, while Boarder added one assist. Maine will need that group to generate chances and support its defensive effort against a Quinnipiac team that has started the season well. The Black Bears will aim to create traffic in front of the net and limit Quinnipiac’s transition chances.

The Bobcats and Black Bears met in their most recent game, with Quinnipiac leaving with a 2-1 victory. Maine will aim to flip the script at home and earn its first win, while Quinnipiac will try to remain perfect. Alfond Arena is expected to provide the Black Bears with a home-ice advantage as they seek a better result in the rematch. Both programs will continue their early-season schedules after this matchup, with Quinnipiac set to face Providence, Post, Northeastern, Union, RPI, Yale, Brown and Cornell next. Maine’s upcoming slate includes Saint Lawrence, Minnesota, Bemidji State, RPI, Providence and Boston University.

Interstat’s game simulator projects Quinnipiac 2, Maine 1. Interstat’s ELO system gives Quinnipiac a 76.5 percent probability to win.
