WORCESTER (Interstat) — Saint Michael’s will travel to face Assumption on Saturday in a women’s NCAA Division I hockey game at Laska Gymnasium in Worcester, Mass. The Purple Knights enter with a 0-1 record, while the Greyhounds are 1-0. Assumption holds the most recent result in the series, a 2-1 home win over Saint Michael’s in the teams’ last meeting. That game also represents the most recent action for both programs. The Greyhounds will aim to continue that success at home, while the Purple Knights will look to reverse the outcome in their second game of the young campaign.

Saint Michael’s opened its schedule with a loss and has yet to score more than one goal in a game this season. The Purple Knights are scheduled to host Franklin Pierce for two games before welcoming Stonehill for another pair. Their upcoming slate also includes a home-and-home series with Dartmouth, followed by road games at Harvard, Merrimack and Long Island. Those matchups will give Saint Michael’s several chances to build rhythm as the season progresses.

Assumption began its season with a victory and has a chance to remain perfect. The Greyhounds are set to visit Holy Cross next before returning home for two games against Sacred Heart. A home-and-home series with Saint Anselm follows, and Assumption later is scheduled to face Mercyhurst, Long Island and Franklin Pierce. The early schedule provides the Greyhounds with a mix of conference and nonconference tests.

The game at Laska Gymnasium will feature two teams in different early-season positions. Assumption has the benefit of a win, home surroundings and recent success against Saint Michael’s. The Greyhounds’ 2-1 victory in the last meeting gives them familiarity with the Purple Knights, who are still seeking consistency after a difficult opening result. Saint Michael’s will need a stronger defensive effort and more production in the offensive zone to keep pace.
