Ohio State Blanks Northeastern 5‑0 in Women’s Hockey, Powered by Four-Goal First Period
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (Interstat) — The Ohio State Buckeyes scored four times in the first period and cruised to a 5-0 victory over the Northeastern Huskies in a women’s NCAA Division I hockey game Friday at Pegula Ice Arena.
Goaltender Hailey MacLeod needed just 15 saves for the shutout before an announced crowd of 1,960. Joy Dunne had a goal and an assist, while Kaia Malachino and Jocelyn Amos each added two assists for the Buckeyes (36-4-0). Sara Swiderski added a third-period goal.
The Huskies (29-9-1), who entered on a four-game winning streak, were held to 15 shots. Stryker Zablocki led Northeastern with five shots on goal.
Ohio State dominated from the start, with Sanni Vanhanen, MacLeod, Dunne and Emma Peschel all scoring in the opening frame. The result defied a national statistical projection that forecast a 7-4 Ohio State win.
