Minnesota-Duluth at Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio (Interstat) — The top-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes used a dominant second-period surge to overpower the Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs 6-1 in a Women’s NCAA Division I hockey game Saturday night at Value City Arena.

A crowd of 690 watched the Buckeyes improve their season record to 35-4-1, while the Bulldogs fell to 21-15-3.

The game was briefly knotted after the first period. Minnesota-Duluth struck first at the 8:25 mark when defenseman Molly Boyle netted her first goal of the season. Ohio State answered less than five minutes later, with center Jocelyn Amos tying the game with her 14th goal, assisted by Joy Dunne and Emma Peschel.

The contest unraveled for the visiting Bulldogs in the second period. Ohio State’s offensive depth took over, scoring three times to seize control. Kaia Malachino gave the Buckeyes their first lead at 3:39 of the period, converting a feed from Amos. Sloane Matthews doubled the advantage just under three minutes later, with Amos collecting another assist. Jordan Baxter capped the middle-frame outburst, scoring at 14:53 with helpers from Matthews and Sanni Vanhanen.

Ohio State continued its relentless pressure in the third period. Matthews netted her second goal of the game just 1:57 into the period, extending the lead to 5-1. Amos sealed the victory with her second goal of the night, a power-play marker at 18:35, assisted by Kassidy Carmichael and Maxine Cimoroni.

Amos was the driving force for Ohio State, finishing with two goals and two assists for a four-point night. Matthews added two goals and an assist. In goal, Hailey MacLeod secured the win with 22 saves on 23 shots.

Minnesota-Duluth’s offense was stifled, managing only 23 shots on goal. Stephanie Stainton, named the Bulldogs’ top star, led her team with five shots on goal. Discipline proved a significant issue for the Bulldogs, who took seven penalties totaling 14 minutes. Samson Frey was assessed six of those minutes on three separate infractions.

The victory continues Ohio State’s recent dominance in the series. The Buckeyes have now won all four meetings this season, outscoring Minnesota-Duluth 19-5 across those games. The result aligned with pregame projections from Interstat, whose ELO system gave Ohio State a 77.6 percent probability to win, though the final score was slightly lower than their simulator’s prediction of a 7-2 outcome.

Ohio State, a national championship contender, displayed the balanced attack and firm defensive structure that has defined its season. Minnesota-Duluth, struggling to generate consistent offense against the nation’s elite, has now lost two straight games following a 1-0 defeat at Yale on Thursday.
