Preview: St. Thomas Tommies at Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio (Interstat) — The second-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes, riding a five-game winning streak, will host the struggling St. Thomas Tommies in a Women’s NCAA Division I hockey matchup Friday at Value City Arena.

The Buckeyes (30-4-1), a national powerhouse, have dominated the recent series. They swept the Tommies in a pair of games in January, outscoring St. Thomas 7-1 over the weekend. Ohio State has won all four meetings between the programs since October 2025 by a combined score of 18-3.

Ohio State enters Friday’s contest fresh off a road sweep of Bemidji State, including a 6-3 victory on Saturday. Forward Maxine Cimoroni has been a driving force, recording a goal and two assists in that win. Over her last eight games, Cimoroni has tallied four goals and 10 assists, anchoring one of the nation’s most potent offenses.

Conversely, St. Thomas (12-21-1) seeks to halt a four-game skid. The Tommies are coming off a hard-fought 4-3 loss to Minnesota State on Saturday, despite a three-point night (one goal, two assists) from standout forward Ella Boerger. Boerger has been a bright spot during the difficult stretch, amassing three goals and four assists in her last eight contests.

The matchup presents a stark contrast in season trajectories. Ohio State, with just four losses, is positioning for top seeding in the upcoming national tournament. St. Thomas, which has only two wins in its last 10 outings, will need a monumental defensive effort to contain the Buckeyes’ attack.

The teams will conclude the two-game series Saturday afternoon in Columbus.
