Colgate at Cornell

ITHACA, N.Y. (Interstat) — A critical late-season ECAC Hockey series with playoff implications begins Friday when the Colgate Raiders visit the Cornell Big Red at Lynah Rink.

The conference rivals, separated by just one win in the standings, face off in the opener of a home-and-home set that concludes Saturday in Hamilton. Both teams enter on strong runs, setting the stage for a tightly contested matchup.

Colgate (19-14-1) has won seven of its last eight games, including a 4-2 victory over RPI last Friday. The Raiders’ offense is powered by senior forward Alexis Petford, who is in exceptional form. In her last six games, Petford has recorded six goals and three assists, including a two-goal, one-assist performance in the win over RPI. Her line, centered by Alexia Aubin, has been a consistent threat.

Cornell (18-10-1) counters with its own momentum, having won four straight games, all in conference play. The Big Red’s surge has been anchored by stellar goaltending from junior Annelies Bergmann. In her last four starts, Bergmann has posted a 4-0 record with two shutouts, stopping 101 of 107 shots for a .944 save percentage. She made 32 saves in a 2-1 win over then-Clarkson on Feb. 14.

The season series is split 1-1. Cornell earned a 4-3 home win over Colgate on Nov. 15, 2025, one day after the Raiders shut out the Big Red 3-0 in Hamilton. That recent history adds an extra layer of intensity to this weekend’s home-and-home finale.

With both teams jockeying for position in the ECAC standings and NCAA tournament consideration, the clash between Colgate’s red-hot scorer Petford and Cornell’s brick-wall goaltender Bergmann will be the pivotal duel. The Raiders’ offensive depth will test a Cornell defense that has allowed just four goals in its last four games.

Puck drop is scheduled for 6 p.m. EST at a sold-out Lynah Rink. The series concludes Saturday at Colgate’s Class of 1965 Arena.
