RIT Seeks Weekend Sweep of Penn State in Women’s Hockey Rematch

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (Interstat) — The Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers will aim for a stunning road sweep of fourth-ranked Penn State on Saturday at Pegula Ice Arena, fresh off an upset that snapped the Nittany Lions’ lengthy win streak.

The teams meet in a women’s NCAA Division I hockey rematch Saturday after RIT (16-16) edged Penn State (28-5) 3-2 on Friday night. That result halted Penn State’s nine-game winning streak and handed the Nittany Lions just their second loss since late November.

Despite the Tigers’ .500 record, they have proven a persistent challenge for Penn State this season. The Nittany Lions hold a 2-1 series edge in 2025-26, but each game has been decided by a single goal. Penn State won 4-3 and 5-3 at RIT in November before Friday’s narrow defeat.

The Tigers enter with momentum, having won three of their last four contests. Key contributors in Friday’s victory included forwards Ireland Stein and Cassandra Barnes, along with defender Madison Buziak. RIT’s recent form has been inconsistent, however, with the win preceded by a pair of lopsided losses at Lindenwood in late January.

Penn State, a national powerhouse this season, will look to reassert its dominance on home ice. Before Friday’s stumble, the Nittany Lions had been dominant, outscoring opponents 46-8 during their nine-game run. Top performers in the series opener included forwards Katelyn Roberts and Maddy Christian, while goaltender Katie DeSa kept the game close.

The Nittany Lions’ overall resume remains formidable, featuring sweeps of Lindenwood, Robert Morris and Delaware in January, along with a road win at then-Cornell.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, Penn State is projected to rebound with a 5-2 victory on Saturday. The simulation underscores the Nittany Lions’ potent offense, which averages nearly four goals per game.

Puck drop is set for 2 p.m. EST at Pegula Ice Arena. The contest concludes the regular-season series between the programs, with postseason implications for both teams as conference tournaments approach.
