Eagles Steal Overtime Win From Huskies in Defensive Battle
BOSTON (Interstat) — Ava Thomas scored 77 minutes and 50 seconds into overtime to give the Boston College Eagles a 1-0 victory over the Northeastern Huskies in a women’s NCAA Division I hockey game Sunday at Matthews Arena.
Boston College goaltender Grace Campbell stopped all 38 shots she faced for the shutout. Northeastern’s Lisa Jönsson made 31 saves on 32 shots.
The Huskies, now 24-7-2, dominated possession and outshot the Eagles 38-32 but could not solve Campbell. The Eagles (14-17-1) killed all six of their penalties. Thomas’ winner came on a power play after a Northeastern slashing call, assisted by Olivia Maffeo and Sammy Taber.
The result upended statistical projections that heavily favored Northeastern.
