Syracuse at RIT

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Interstat) — The Syracuse Orange and RIT Tigers will complete a home-and-home series Saturday at the Gene Polisseni Center, with both women’s hockey teams looking to build momentum for the final stretch of the NCAA season.

The matchup comes less than 24 hours after Syracuse (14-14-3) edged RIT (14-16-0) 3-2 on its home ice Friday. The season series is tied 2-2, with each team winning once on the road. The Tigers took a 4-1 decision at Syracuse on Oct. 25, while the Orange won 5-2 at RIT on Oct. 24.

Syracuse aims to secure a winning record and carry forward the momentum from Friday’s victory, which snapped a two-game skid. The Orange had struggled offensively prior, being shut out by Lindenwood on Jan. 24 and scoring just three total goals in two losses to Penn State the previous weekend. Goaltender Ava Drabyk and forwards Jackson Kinsler and Jessica Cheung were key contributors in the Friday win.

RIT seeks to rebound on home ice and get back to .500 overall. The Tigers’ recent form has been inconsistent, following a dominant sweep of Delaware in early January with a pair of lopsided losses at Lindenwood last weekend. Forwards Jaidan Fahrny and Cassandra Barnes, along with goaltender Brenna McNamara, were noted for their play in the narrow Friday loss.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 3-2 victory for the home-standing Tigers. The result could hinge on special teams and which squad best manages the quick turnaround.

Following Saturday’s contest, both teams face challenging road series next weekend. Syracuse travels to face Mercyhurst, while RIT heads to Penn State.

Puck drop is scheduled for 3 p.m. EST at the Gene Polisseni Center.
