RIT at Brown

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Interstat) — Two teams trending in opposite directions will meet Saturday when the Brown Bears host the RIT Tigers in a non-conference women’s hockey matchup at Meehan Auditorium.

The Bears (12-9-0) enter on a high note after a decisive 6-2 victory over then-Colgate last Saturday. That win highlighted the team’s offensive capability and snapped a two-game skid. A key catalyst is sophomore winger Monique Lyons, who recorded two goals and an assist in the win over the Raiders. Lyons has been a consistent threat, posting four points (3 goals, 1 assist) in her last three games.

Conversely, the Tigers (13-13-0) are looking to halt a two-game losing streak after being swept at home by Mercyhurst last weekend. RIT fell 2-1 in a tight contest last Saturday despite a standout 37-save performance from goaltender Brenna McNamara. The senior netminder, who stopped 37 of 39 shots in that loss, will likely be called upon again to keep the Tigers competitive against Brown’s surging attack.

The matchup pits Brown’s recent offensive output against an RIT team seeking defensive stability. Beyond Lyons, Brown’s top line of Jade Iginla and Margot Norehad, who combined for three goals and 16 shots against Colgate, presents a significant challenge. RIT will counter with defenders like Emma Pickering, who scored the team’s lone goal in its last outing, and forward Cassandra Barnes, who leads the team in assists.

Historically, the programs have met only sporadically, adding an element of the unknown to the contest. For RIT, this game begins a crucial stretch against Eastern opponents before returning to CHA play. For Brown, it’s a final non-conference tune-up before resuming its ECAC Hockey schedule next weekend.

Puck drop is scheduled for 3 p.m. EST on Saturday, Jan. 24, at Meehan Auditorium.
