Reyer Venezia vs. Valencia
VALENCIA, Spain (Interstat) — A pivotal matchup in the Spain LF2 women’s professional basketball league tips off Wednesday as Valencia hosts Italian club Reyer Venezia in a clash of title contenders.
The game features two of the league’s hottest teams. Valencia (17-6 overall) enters on a four-game winning streak, including an emphatic 81-54 victory over Avenida on Jan. 11. Reyer Venezia (18-5) arrives after an 85-67 road win at Roseto on Jan. 10.
Valencia’s offense is powered by forward Leonie Fiebich, who is averaging 16.3 points over her last three games. She scored a season-high 21 points in the win over Avenida. Her versatility will be key against a disciplined Venezia defense.
For the visitors, center Stephanie Mavunga provides a dominant interior presence. She is coming off a double-double of 10 points and 14 rebounds against Roseto. Her matchup with Valencia’s Awa Thiam, who had 10 points and four rebounds in the last outing, will be critical in the paint.
Beyond the star players, both teams boast balanced attacks. In Venezia’s last game, guard Mariella Santucci dished out seven assists and forward Kaila Charles added 15 points. Valencia’s backcourt, led by Elena Buenavida’s 14-point performance against Avenida, offers consistent scoring.
The contest is the first of a home-and-home series between the clubs, with the rematch scheduled for Feb. 4 in Italy. With nearly identical records and deep rosters, Wednesday’s game could have significant implications for league standings and postseason positioning. Valencia will look to protect its home court and extend its win streak, while Venezia aims to continue its strong form on the road.
