TROISTORRENTS, Switzerland (Interstat) — SBS Ostrava and Portes du Soleil played to a 65-65 tie in a defensive struggle on Thursday afternoon at Troistorrents.

The game, which saw both teams finish with identical point totals and possessions, was a statistical anomaly defined by poor shooting and a flurry of turnovers. The teams combined for 45 giveaways, with Portes du Soleil committing 23 and SBS Ostrava committing 22.

Despite the offensive inefficiency, the game featured several standout individual performances. Iva Belosevic, a 6-foot-3 forward for SBS Ostrava, recorded a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, adding three assists and three blocks in 31 minutes.

For Portes du Soleil, Hana Ivanusa also notched a double-double, scoring 15 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in 28 minutes of action. Teammate Alexis Whitfield nearly had a double-double of her own, finishing with 14 points and nine rebounds.

SBS Ostrava’s Oliana Squires, a guard from Sandcreek, Colorado, contributed 11 points and five rebounds, while point guard Lucie Valkova dished out a game-high six assists.

Portes du Soleil’s perfect 18-for-18 performance from the free throw line was a key factor in overcoming a poor shooting afternoon from the floor, where the team made just 21 of 52 attempts. SBS Ostrava was also perfect from the line, making all 11 of its attempts, but shot 24 for 63 overall.

Both teams open their seasons with an 0-0-1 record. They are scheduled for a rematch in the same venue next Thursday.

SBS Ostrava will then host DSK on Sept. 28. Portes du Soleil’s next game after the rematch is not until Oct. 26, when it travels to face Nyon.
