GIANNENA, Greece (Interstat) — Angela Salvadores recorded a triple-double with 19 points, 11 assists and five rebounds to lead Gernika Bizkaia to a dominant 90-57 season-opening victory over PAS Giannena on Thursday afternoon.

The Spanish club controlled the game from the start, using a stifling defense to overwhelm the Greek hosts. Gernika forced 15 turnovers, converting them into easy scoring opportunities, and held PAS Giannena to an offensive rating of 86.4 points per 100 possessions.

Salvadores, a 5-foot-10 point guard, was the catalyst, orchestrating the offense in 33 minutes of play. Her backcourt partner, 5-4 guard Ane Olaeta, added 13 points and eight assists.

Inside, Gernika’s frontcourt provided a significant advantage. Emily Bessoir, a 6-3 forward, posted a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while 6-1 center Masa Jankovic nearly matched her with 15 points and eight boards. The visitors dominated the glass, outrebounding PAS Giannena 14-7 on the offensive end, which led to numerous second-chance points.

Gernika shot 50% from the floor on 36-of-72 shooting and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line. PAS Giannena struggled offensively, shooting 40.4% from the field and connecting on just 9 of 29 attempts from three-point range.

Konstantina Sarigiannidou led the home side with 18 points. Aikaterini Marini, a 5-10 guard, finished with 11 points, five rebounds and eight assists in the losing effort.

The loss drops PAS Giannena to 0-1 to start its season. Gernika Bizkaia begins its campaign 1-0.

The two teams are scheduled to meet again in a rematch at the same venue on Thursday, Sept. 25.
